Nestled near the scenic Causey Reservoir, at an elevation of 6,000 feet, is our haven, our passion project, our homestead, a simple life - The Yeehaw Ranch. I'm Kyle, and alongside my wife Hannah and our two little adventurers, Lennox and King, we're crafting a life immersed in nature, self-sufficiency, and the boundless beauty of the mountains.
Spanning 7.5 acres, our homestead is a sanctuary where the air is crisp, the dirt roads are rugged, and the landscapes are breathtaking. The Yeehaw Ranch is perched on the mountain, presenting us with challenges and rewards that come with living in harmony with nature.
Three clucking companions – our chickens – add a touch of rustic charm to our homestead. They're not just egg layers; they're part of the family, playing around in their coup and run and contributing to our self-sufficient lifestyle.
Here at Yeehaw Ranch, the mantra is clear: if you can DIY it, do it. From woodworking to home electrical projects, I've embraced every opportunity to learn, become self-sufficient, and save money. The 720 square foot log cabin we call home may be cozy, but it's a testament to the power of hard work and ingenuity.
Living off a quarter mile of dirt roads, half of which are a steep challenge, is no small feat, especially in the winter when blankets of snow transform our surroundings. Yet, it's part of the adventure, a reminder of the resilience required to thrive in this mountainous landscape.
While our homestead is a haven for our simple life, it comes with its quirks. No cell service pushes us to depend on our Starlink-powered home Wi-Fi for everything – from work calls to keeping in touch with loved ones. It's a unique aspect of our lifestyle, a testament to the adaptability that comes with homesteading.
Our days are punctuated by visits from the wild. Deer graze peacefully, rabbits hop through the meadows, and squirrels chatter in the trees. The occasional moose, skunk, or turkey sighting adds an element of unpredictability to our mountain life. It's a constant reminder that we share this space with creatures big and small.
Our 720 square foot log cabin is our refuge, a warm and inviting space where family bonds are strengthened. But, as our family grows, so too does our need for space. Plans are in motion for an 1800 square foot addition in the coming years, a project that will not only enhance our living conditions but also deepen our connection to the land.
Yeehaw Ranch is more than just a homestead; it's a lifestyle. It's about embracing the simplicity of life in the mountains, facing challenges head-on, and relishing in the beauty that nature generously provides. Join us on this journey of growth, learning, and the unwavering spirit of the Yeehaw Ranch. Life here is an adventure, and we wouldn't have it any other way.
